Dear visitors, I'm sorry for the recent downtimes but I have been in the process of changing webservers and it has been a bumpy ride because the BD on my old server had become corrupted. Fortunately, I had a 20/1/2010 backup laying around and was able to restore this site. Have fun!
Regards,
Revolt

I'm now officially a IST Tagus LEIC freshman!! I'm so excited about this new step in my life! No more boring subjects like Philosophy or Portuguese (or atleast I hope so) and an awesome schedule (8:30-13:30) definitely contribute to an healthy study environment :D
This first week (starting tomorrow) will be the freshmans' week so I suspect I shall be pretty tired by the end of it...
Oh and the driving lessons are going well! I've already made the the theoretical exam and I have only 14 lessons lessons left till I can make the practical one. In no time I'll be stealing my mother's car and take it around for a spin. Atleast until I can afford my own one :P
I'll be keeping you guys updated and I'm looking forward to writing another tutorial! Just don't really know about what. If you have any suggestions please say so (preferably C++ or PHP since these are the languages I've been doing the most work with).

It is now official! After some agonizing weeks of intense study, I have completed the 12th grade, the end of high school, with an average of 195/200 (pretty proud of myself :D).
In order to achieve that I had to undertake a series of 3 national exams (Maths, Portuguese and Geometry). Most went quite well and I had great expectations which were indeed accurate, atleast concerning Maths (an awesome 200/200) and Geometry (196/200). The classification of the Portuguese exam struck me as rather surprising since I hadn't found any major complications or difficulties during the exam. I got 143/200 but nothing to worry about since this is not one of the master subjects of Information Systems and Computer Engineering, the course I pretend to attend in University (IST Taguspark).
Oh and it is my birthday today (11th July) so I guess HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! :D

After some months of inactivity, it is with great regret that my first post is about a recent problem with my hosting. Due to some kind of problem with the server upgrade or due to some malicious user, I (and probably many of you) was greeted with a blank page while trying to access this very site.
Later on, I came to find that all my FTP had been erased. Luckily, I had a 'recent' backup of all the coding (though not all the files) so please bear with me while I try to restablish the order here ;)
Programming - PHP - Alternative way to add images to your posts

Hello folks!
As I was writing my previous post (the one about my awesome vacations :P) I stumbled across a little problem in my post edit thingie: it had no image handling.
Since I wanted to add some photos so you could actually see some of the beautiful sights I talked about, I immediately started thinking of ways to easily implement a "Add new image to post" feature capable of creating thumbnails aswell (since I'm a really nice guy and wouldn't want to strain your browsers with megabytes of data ;D).
The first, and most obvious, thing that came to mind was creating some kind of upload form (in a popup or using AJAX) that would accept an image file, process it, create a thumbnail and add the image code to the html of the post. The problem with this method is that it would take lots of time to implement correctly or would require extensive code tweaking to some third-party upload library in order to adapt it to my own needs.
While I was reflecting upon this issue, a cunning idea started to form in my mind. What if instead of using a local file I used a file already in the net? This way the need for an upload form (atleast in my site) would no longer be. That's how I came up with the following script.

As usual, when we enjoy ourselves time flies. I can't believe my 2 (and a half) weeks of holidays are already over. Guess I shouldn't complain though since some didn't even have holidays :P
So as I had said in my previous post, I stayed in Brasil with my father, his wife and my 2 brothers.
I spent the first week in Porto Alegre where it was almost hard to breathe due to the wet but hot weather in that region. Did some sightseeing, attended the 'End of School Year' event at my brothers' school, met lots of cool people and paid a visit to the main wine production region of Rio Grande do Sul, hidden between the mountains and surrounded by immense forests.

I doubt any of you noticed but the site's domain was down for two days due to complications with the renewal process and the hosting provider. Everything should be ok now though ;)
I'll see if I manage to wrap up a summary of my vacations in Brazil for whomever may be interested in it :D
Now lets go watch some Lost Season 5, shall we? :)
Until next time!

First of all let me start by apologizing for my lack of posts. I've been quite busy with school projects and exams and ended up neglecting my site a little bit.
I'll be heading to Brazil tomorrow, where I'll be staying with my dad and brothers for the following three weeks. Therefore I might take a little longer to reply to your emails or comments.
As for what happened since my last post, my mom got really sick (but is better now); someone flatted three tires of my mother's car and I found out I'll be developing a platform game as a school project (great opportunity to test my game engine :P). Oh and I'm going to be an uncle again!
And that's about it... Therefore I have nothing left to say but to wish you all a merry Christmas and I hope this new year of 2009 will bring you plenty of happiness and success ;)

To whom it may concern I'm back in school so I might not be as available as before. In fact, school has started on the 10th of September but only today did I remember to post a new item on my blog. I guess I'm becoming lazy :D
Nothing really new though: same school, most teachers are the same and no new colleagues. The only thing that changed was the subjects. No more Philosophy! (yey :D) nor English (though I'll continue studying at the British Council on Saturdays) and Physics/Chemistry was replaced by pure Physics (another yey here :P).

Today I'll be going to Algarve for 2 weeks so I'll be unable to reply to any emails/comments.
I'll be staying in Vilamoura at my dad's house. I hope I can get a decent tan and I'll try to enjoy myself as best as I can since I'll probably remove the remaining 2 wisdom teeth on September :S
Cya in 2 weeks time!
